Resources

  • Gem in a Box Kit List
The GEM in a Box kit was created as a low-cost, user-friendly option for researchers in lesser resourced regions to obtain high-quality, standardized data for indicators of eutrophication. When used according to the publicly-available Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and instructional videos, the suite of instruments and associated components detailed within this kit list provide the tools needed to collect data for the following variables: nitrogen, phosphorus, silica, oxygen, turbidity, temperature, salinity and chlorophyll a.

  • The Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs) for working with the GEM-in-a-box equipment are available on Github in the “protocols” folder.

  • The Data Management Plan for the GEM-in-a-box pilot project is available here

  • Manufacturers’ User Manuals, Quick Guides, Tech Sheets, and other resources have been compiled on Google Drive here

  • Training videos - The Hakai Communications team produced an easy-to-follow, step by step series of training videos on how to use the kits. This is intended to not only supplement the knowledge already gained through the hands-on training workshop, but to be able to train others who may not have participated in the workshop. This ensures that in future, if we can secure funding for the equipment but not travel to participate in training, scientists across the world will still be able to make use of these well-designed, easy-to-use GEM-in-a-box kits.
